Preparation checklist

ETIAS application checklist for 2026: prepare without applying early.

A useful ETIAS checklist should not pretend applications are open. It should help travellers prepare the facts they will need while keeping official launch status first.

Current ETIAS position

Verified on May 15, 2026. ETIAS is not currently in operation, no applications are being collected yet, and the expected start window remains last quarter of 2026.

Before launch: do these checks only

ETIAS is not operational as of May 15, 2026. The right checklist today is preparation and verification, not form submission.

  • Check the current official launch status.
  • Confirm passport validity and spelling.
  • Confirm every destination and short-stay day count.
  • Avoid pages asking for ETIAS payment before launch.

Traveller details to keep consistent

When the official form exists, passport details, name spelling, date of birth, contact email, trip context, and payment details may all need care. The same passport should be used for application and travel.

Fee and exemption check

Official material currently states a EUR 20 ETIAS fee once operational, with exemptions for some applicants. Optional support fees are separate and should be reviewed before purchase.

After a future application

Keep access to the application email, monitor official notices, and read any further-information, refusal, or appeal instruction from the official authority before acting.
